CrowdSC is a crowdsourced website that helps USC students find less crowded places to study, work out, or eat. Students first choose Study, Gym, or Dining and can then compare current crowd levels across relevant campus locations. Students at a location can report whether it is Not Crowded, Moderate, Busy, or Very Crowded. Students can also set up email alerts for specific locations to be notified when they reach a preferred crowd level during a selected time range. Emails will be verified before alerts are activated.
The database will contain campus locations, categories, crowdsourced crowd reports, and email alerts. Crowd reports will include a crowd level and timestamp and will expire from the current crowd estimate after one hour. Older reports will remain as historical data and be used to show typical crowd levels by day and time. Alert data will include a location, email, preferred crowd level, time range, and verification code.
Unlike tools such as Google Maps, which show crowd information for individual locations, CrowdSC is designed around comparing USC spaces based on what a student wants to do. Students can select Study, Gym, or Dining and compare recent, student-reported crowd levels across relevant campus locations in one place. So, instead of searching up individual places on Google Maps, this makes it quick and easy.
